How should Christians view the Old Testament Law and more specifically, the Ten Commandments? Does the grace of God we find in the gospel do away with the law? What implications does the finished work of Jesus on the cross have on the law?
In 'X', our sermon series on the 10 Commandments, we seek to bring clarity where there is confusion in the lives of many Christians when it comes to how to engage the Old Testament generally, and the commands of God (summarized in the 10 Commandments) more specifically.
Ultimately, Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law of God for us and has put a new Spirit in us, which replaces attempts at external moral restraint with gospel-driven internal motivation. Simply put, we keep the law not as a way of getting right with God but as a way of pleasing the God who has made us right with Him!
In light of the gospel, God’s law becomes a loving gift to guide us rather than an indicting burden that crushes us.
